Balagi Rattan has an outstanding Japanese designer, Y. Yamakawa. He has spent his entire life with rattan and knows the material like no other. Combine this with his creativity and sense for elegance and what you get is the unique Yamakawa style that has made Balagi Rattan a world renowned brand of high class rattan furniture.

His designs are for the people. Making something that looks interesting is easy but to make a piece of furniture that feels as good as it looks - and it does need to feel good to customers - is the art he is striving for.

Function-ability - produce-ability - comfort-ability are the three pillars on which I base my designs. I am a great admirer of the Bauhaus movement. This promoted a synthesis of technology and the visual arts, with an emphasis on functionalism. "
